Admiral came into our rescue program on June 5, 2010. Admiral is a Beautiful, Dark Bay, Quarter Horse, Gelding. He is estimated to be 15 years of age. Admiral has several severe wounds on his hind legs, which require bandaging every other day. It appears that this poor boy got caught up in a fence and was never treated. He had a sufficient amount of proud flesh growing on his wounds and it was clear that the healing process had stalled. Our Veterinarian had to come out and debride the wounds and get back to healthy flesh. Thankfully, he didn't get any major tendons or joints and he should be able to recover from these injuries. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him. It will take at least 6 months or more of continued stall rest and bandage changing before we will see improvement. This sweet boy needs your help! Please consider making a donation towards Admiral's rehabilitation. We will update as he progresses.
Update 7/12/2011 Admiral has came a long ways since he arrived here a year ago. He had a lot of trauma and wounds on his hind legs and most have healed up and look great. However, he is still having some complications on his hind foot, as he did suffer the most damage along his coronet band, where his tendon was severed and exposed healing on the outside of his leg. We are now placing him in an egg bar shoe, to keep his hoof together and not allow separation. Hopefully, this will also provide him some comfort, as he is lame on that hind leg. Other than that, he is doing great. Admiral will never be able to be ridden. He will be a companion animal only. We will continue to update, as Admiral progresses. Hopefully, this next stage of his healing will bring him much comfort and will be able to enjoy his pasture time. Please consider making a donation towards Admiral's rehabilitation.
